New Delhi: A 700 kg albino buffalo on a farm near Dhaka has become an unlikely internet sensation—its pale skin and flowing golden hair drawing widespread comparisons to US President Donald Trump—amid reports of its impending sacrifice during Eid al-Adha.

Visitors have descended on the farm to photograph and film the animal, which has been nicknamed ‘Donald Trump’. Videos and images online prompted users to call the resemblance “uncanny”, with some likening the buffalo to a political cartoon made of flesh.

The story gained fresh momentum after Bill Drexel, a researcher, posted on X that the buffalo’s viral reach was “a clear testament to the president’s uncanny charisma”, before adding that he had since learned the animal was due to be ritually sacrificed for Eid.

“Save the buffalo?” he added, tagging the US President.

News agency AFP and regional media have reported that the buffalo has functioned as a local tourist attraction, with visitors queuing to document it before the festival. Eid al-Adha traditionally involves the sacrifice of livestock as part of religious observance.

Albino buffaloes are exceptionally rare, their white or pink appearance a consequence of reduced melanin—the pigment that produces the characteristic dark colouring of the species.

“The buffalo’s unusual appearance is linked to genetic modification or mutation affecting melanin production, which normally gives buffaloes their characteristic black colour,” said ABM Khaleduzzaman, a livestock expert.

Isolated sightings of albino buffaloes have been reported in Nebraska and Indonesia, but they remain uncommon globally, adding a further layer of novelty to the Narayanganj animal.

The buffalo’s trajectory—from farm animal to global meme to the unlikely subject of online debate about faith, celebrity, and animal fate—captures the compressed velocity of internet fame in 2026.

However, an X user called the comparison to Trump offensive, writing that comparing a political leader to an animal linked to ritual sacrifice crossed a line. The post also connected the debate to wider political and religious tensions involving Sadiq Khan and anti-Trump protests in the UK, while highlighting how a buffalo from Bangladesh unexpectedly became part of global political meme culture overnight.

Meanwhile, a video post on X shows a Brazilian journalist laughing during a report on the buffalo, with the caption: “Brazilian journalist simply can’t take it and loses it — She couldn’t resist and had to have a laugh at the ‘Donald Trump Buffalo’ from Bangladesh.”

Another user joked that the buffalo looked like Trump “reincarnated” as a farm animal and said internet users can’t decide whether it’s an Eid sacrifice or a political reunion with Donald Trump.
