New Delhi: British farmers will now be able to put their products into the US market following the end of prolonged negotiations between the two governments, a UK government release announced.
The deal, announced Saturday, will see UK beetroot growers benefit from an additional market opportunity worth an estimated £150,000 per year. The US government has agreed to allow imports of UK beetroot to satisfy demand for high-quality beetroot outside of the US growing season. This will give American consumers access to a range of world-leading producers, the release added.
The is a significant milestone for British farmers and an important step forward in the UK’s overseas food trade. It is hoped that the move will boost demand for UK food products in the US and beyond, and help to grow the economy and expand UK trade relationships post-Brexit.
The NFU President, Tom Bradshaw, said, “It is great news that after many years of campaigning, British Beet growers will have access to the market in the United States for the first time.
“Being able to access the US market, supplementing local production, will help to meet rising consumer demand for this healthy, nutritional crop, creating genuine growth opportunities for farmers and growers in the UK,” he added.
