Washington, Oct 4 (PTI) US President Joe Biden on Tuesday spoke with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to condemn North Korea’s latest provocative missile tests, and reinforced Washington’s “iron-clad commitment” to Japan’s defence.
North Korea on Tuesday conducted its longest-ever weapons test, a nuclear-capable ballistic missile that flew over Japan and could reach the US Pacific territory of Guam.
“The leaders jointly condemned the DPRK’s missile test in the strongest terms, recognising the launch as a danger to the Japanese people, destabilising to the region, and a clear violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions,” the White House said.
During the call, Biden reinforced America’s ironclad commitment to Japan’s defence.
The two leaders confirmed they would work closely with South Korea and the international community to coordinate an immediate and longer-term response, the White House said.
