ASEAN, China meet to discuss issue of transnational crime

Officials on Thursday discussed cybercrimes, fraud, and fugitive handling at the meeting in Laos.

The 11th ASEAN Plus China Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime Consultation (11 AMMTC + China) was held in Vientiane, Laos Thursday. The meeting, with the participation of the Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, China and Timor-Leste as Observer, focused on discussing emerging transnational crimes and strengthening cooperation in combating them.

Issues in focus during the consultation included concerns of transnational crime, particularly cyber-enabled crimes, such as online gambling, online scams, telecom fraud, and handling criminals and fugitives.

“The Consultation also looked forward to the effective implementation of the SOMTC + China Work Plan on Cooperation to Combat Transnational Crime (204-2028),” the release added.
