New Delhi: A new global survey released Wednesday has found that nine out of 10 people do not want their lives to return to the way it was before Covid-19. The respondents also said they wanted to have a more equitable and sustainable future for themselves.

Titled ‘How much is the world yearning for change after the Covid-19 crisis’, the study was conducted by the World Economic Forum and Ipsos, a market research company, from 21 August to 4 September. It was done across 28 countries by Ipsos’ online survey platform called Global Advisor.

A total of 21,104 people from 28 nations were interviewed for the study. While people aged 18-77 years were interviewed in the US, Canada, Malaysia, Turkey and South Africa, in the rest of the 23 countries, respondents belonged to the age group 16-74 years.

In India, 87 per cent respondents said they wanted a more sustainable and equitable world. The same number of people also said they were waiting for personal changes to take place in their lives in a post pandemic scenario.

72% want changes in personal lives

The global survey had asked respondents two questions — whether they wanted the world to be more sustainable and equitable, compared to pre-Covid times, and if they wanted their personal lives to change significantly in a post-pandemic world.

While 86 per cent of those surveyed said they wanted to see the world change, become more sustainable and equitable, 72 per cent sought changes in their personal lives as opposed to returning to the way things were before the Covid-19 crisis.

Russia and Colombia topped the list of countries where people wanted to have a more sustainable and equitable future (94 per cent respondents). Latin American nations such as Colombia (94 per cent respondents), Mexico (93 per cent respondents), and Peru (93 per cent) topped the list of countries where people said they wanted changes in their personal lives.
