Mr. Modi, Mr. Shah and the BJP would do well not to waste their time on Bengal. Bengal is a cesspool and is destined to remain bogged in “progressive” politics and continue on its downward spiral. Kolkata is the only Indian city where the demography is actually aging. Why? Because the young are moving out of the city in search of jobs and the youth from neighbouring mofussil areas are not migrating into the city as no jobs are to be found. The city as well as the state hardly has any future. Unfortunately, the much vaunted Bengali “intelligentsia” are quite content singing paeans to the past glory of Bengal. For them, its all that matters. Issues of employment, industrialization, entrepreneurship, etc. hardly bother them. As long as they are employed in cushy government jobs enjoying a decent lifestyle, they will continue with their “progressive” brand of politics leading Bengal to further misery.
The national leadership of the BJP would do well to spend its political capital on states where it can actually make a difference.
