Modi govt's claim that everything – CAA, NRC, Internet shutdowns, police excesses – is a 'domestic' issue and therefore of no concern to the outside world is simply not credible.
Phrases such as 'Alia Malia Jamalia', 'Godi Media' and 'Urban Naxals' have been around for a while, but they got new life in a 2019 filled with elections, and Pulwama-Balakot.
Here are some of the country’s biggest and most-storied businessmen who saw their fortunes fade in 2019 as Indian banks attempted to repair their balance sheets.
If Advani was the Loh Purush, Vajpayee was the Vikas Purush, the Hriday Samrat. But the question arises: is Modi the real Loh Purush or is it Amit Shah?
Canada faces serious foreign interference issues, but these challenges must not be weaponized to unfairly target friendly and important allies like India.
In Episode 1544 of CutTheClutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta looks at some top economists pointing to the pitfalls of ‘currency nationalism’ with data from 1991 to 2004.
The decorated Naga officer from Manipur also served as envoy to Myanmar & Nagaland chief secy. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a museum dedicated to the Tawang hero Thursday.
While we talk much about our military, we don’t put our national wallet where our mouth is. Nobody is saying we should double our defence spending, but current declining trend must be reversed.
I dont understand author’s point of view. Something is seriously wrong with India’s think thank and intellectuals and out of all the people, Sushant Sareen.
sir, please tell me, why should we TRUST and consider them “bhai, behen, dosth etc” inspite of all the backstabbing, pakistanis hating indians, despising & abusing us and our native religions, frequently referring us as “gai ka pisab pinewala, rand1ans etc”, racially looking down on indians, supporting terrorism and UN designated terror groups in kashmir, supporting terror1sts like hafiz saeed, mazood azhar, buran wani, zakir musa, riyaz naikoo etc. by pak government and their people and treating them terr0r1sts as HEROES; pak government & pakistani origins/expats funding & working in western LEFT media like BBC, al jazeera, TRT, the guardian, NYT, DW etc. to destroy india’s image(its a huge success; reason why indians are looked down & face discrimination from foreigners), speading misinformation, demonizing India and indians on social media, pakistanis celebrating when our soldiers and civilians demise from terror attacks, pakistani celebrating when something bad happens in india, over 80% of pakistanis dreaming about ghazwa e hind and openly proclaiming they want to overthrow us etc. . ?
To think of improving relations with Pak is absurd now and in near future. None of Modi’s actions will be reversed by any successive governments, even if all opposition parties are shouting against them now. In fact, we are looking forward to break up Pakistan in next 10 years! China will have to write off Pak but it will prop up Nepal against us in lieu of Pak. Indian economy is doing fine and is far away from ICU, unlike what Sareen believes. CAA NPR NRC will be settled soon and people will realise how hollow the arguments against them are. USA getting busy with Iran is a diversion of attention from India and Modi should now focus on deep structural reforms for the economy. That will set the stage for 2024.
Don’t know if the MEA is organised and structured to serve India’s strategic stakes? Perhaps there is a need to create teams of talented personnel, each focussing on certain regions, for example (1) Pak-Middle East; (2) US-UK; (3) Russia-China; (4) EU; (5) Far East etc etc. Want to play big, then plan and execute big. Ideally, a country of India’s size and geo-strategic location needs professional institutions on the scale of Pentagon and FBI. There is a need to look outwards in a coherently strategic way, and evaluate whether India needs to raise its voice as a ‘free-floating balancer’ OR as a strategic partner of the West (by taking as a back-seat and being passive observer as America bombs its perceived enemies). The Indian public needs to know government’s direction just as Western public and China know. Just as the Indian public knew during the height of NAM (non-alignment.
That sounds a bit like ABC, when we were told it would soon be XYZee.
Your comprehension is weak and your heart is full of bitterness. You can only whine…telephone lines broken, NYT critical, India not talking to Pakistan blah blah, mumbo jumbo. The day you start talking common sense rather than with your anti-establishment feelings (perhaps cultivated in communist Bengal) and take a clear and explicit stand, will be a new dawn on The Print.
Though the article is Pakistan focused, these are just broad thoughts that are hardly repetitive as most of your comments are.
Pakistan has become part of our internal political dynamic. So, in a way, had Kashmir. Unless and until that changes, expect no change in this cold war. Hopefully, just as the two countries had the good sense to take an attack on the other’s nuclear facilities off the table two decades ago, there is sufficient communication to prevent an actual war. It is not just Pakistan. Our space on the global stage has shrunk dramatically. Foreign governments will still be happy to sell us fighter aircraft and missile batteries. Ambassador M K Bhadrakumar has tweeted how the phone lines were being burnt after General Soleiman’s assassination between the major powers but no one felt the need to call New Delhi.

India has to learn to live with pakistan which is an eternal nuisance.
