Rahul Gandhi is a fifth-generation politician from the Nehru-Gandhi family and a senior Congress leader. He currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Entering politics in 2004, he contested from the family stronghold of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, winning three consecutive terms before losing to the BJP’s Smriti Irani in 2019. However, he remained an MP by securing a win from Wayanad, a seat he held until 2024. He briefly served as Congress president from 2017 but resigned after the party’s poor performance in the 2019 General Elections.
Between 2022 and 2024, Rahul Gandhi led two major political marches—the 3,750-km Bharat Jodo Yatra (Kanniyakumari to Srinagar) and the 6,700-km Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (Thoubal to Mumbai). In the 2024 elections, he made a strong comeback, reclaiming Amethi and assuming the role of Leader of the Opposition.
Going through the part narrated about four friends having kachauri-aaloo with after burner chutney was immesely touching rather moving. How should the development be evaluated when one’s future is in the lurch.
Rahul may do better with his speaking if he first sheds his intense hatred of Modi, reflected in the childish, primary schoolboy kind of acronyms and meaningless jibes, without ONCE saying what exactly HE can do as PM to change and improve things for the voters. His so called ‘witty’ speeches may draw claps and wild celebration from his own party members and wide reporting in the media, who are only concerned with the sale of their own newspapers, magazines and TRPs. What exactly is Rahul’s message? Only, name calling and mockery of Modi all the time. His example is naturally being followed by lesser leaders, rightly believing that it would increase their being noticed by Rahul. The media and even veteran journalists are jumping to conclusions too early, perhaps reflecting wishful thinking, rather than accurate ground reports.
Between the time this column initially appeared and now, Shri Rahul Gandhi’s public speaking has improved enormously. Saw a recent speech of his in Rajasthan, no reading from a script, a few issues that resonated with the crowd, plain, simple, direct.it would be a costly mistake not to take him seriously.
