Kangana Ranaut is a well-known actress and producer in the Hindi film industry and a BJP politician. With films like Queen and Manikarnika to her name, she was known for her portrayal of strong female characters.
Hailing from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, an ‘outsider’ in showbusiness, she was critical of nepotism in the film industry, also known as Bollywood, and celebrities, claiming to have been wronged by some of them. She was part of a riled-up controversy after the BMC, led by Shiv Sena, demolished parts of her office in Mumbai over alleged structural violations and illegal construction, and soon became part of daily headlines for her comments on the controversy around the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
The actress was announced as a candidate for the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
So true but it never occurred to me while watching zindegi na milegi…how mainstream cinema promote sexism. The problem is Feminism, castisym are conveniently used by Bollywood stars to suit their views. That is distorting the cause unfortunately.
True that!!!!!
Did you notice as much as certain modern day feminist sections of the media are supporting Rhea Chakraborty, none of them have a word to say about her brother who is arrested in almost similar charges.
Do we still need even an iota of thought to realise that modern day feminism has got nothing to do with gender equality!
Say yes to true feminism which stands for gender equality!
Male counterparts exist as well – tantric, jadugar, aghori, etc. But you are correct they are not as popular as the female counterparts. Another figment of the patriarchal society. But the same is true for west as well. Witches are more popular and are often demonized. Wizards and warlocks less and are seldom demonized as a group. Just a bad apple here and there. So true for entire world. But I also think depicting them as cartoons is even good. Makes it a laughable subject and reduces fear. Also makes it imaginary.
