First of all the Hindi zealots in the Central Govt do not know what is actually happening in the South, on the ground. In TN for example, there are many tourist guides who speak reasonable Hindi due to the huge influx of people from North who come to Madurai, Rameshwaram etc. This applies to taxi and auto drivers in these locations. Also, many thousands voluntarily join up for Hindi classes with the Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha. That should be more than enough for the zealots in DElhi. But they cannot tolerate the fact that in South India , English will always be given pride of place over Hindi, since people here want to get on in the wide world and further their prospects. They have no false pride in their own languages , even if they are ancient and well developed.

Or else if they don’t understand your language they might as well just not pay a heed. There is a difference when someone ignores someone out of hatred or just out of incapability. This is very subtle but a very big difference. Stop yout hatred and no one is imposing hindi on you. It is a political tool which everyone is aware of. No one in north India is even bothered if anyone in south India speaks hindi or not. What they are bothered is that you stop the hatred.
