Why all such projects are meant for Delhi and Mumbai? Why none for Patna, Kolkata or Guwahati? Why such step-motherly treatment to east and north-east India?
The reason for the delay in this critical road project is the greed and subversive tactics of the Delhi Gurgaon NH8 expressway concessionaire. The real beneficiaries of the NH8 expressway have been hiding their identity behind a corporate structure ever since. They have meddled with each and every option to their road, be it the MG Road, Dwarka Expressway, alternate additional routes connecting Delhi Gurgaon etc. If the loss of time and fuel due to the congestion as a result is added onto the over-realisation of toll over the costs of the project and losses to the whole area subdued for over 2 decades, it would shock the whole country and the perpetrators would have been in serious trouble both with the law as well as the public. The people responsible for awarding an existing stretch of National Highway to be put under toll should also be punished.
If a greenfield road with massive infrastructure and spend built by a public listed company, DND, can be taken out of toll and made free much before expiry, what is shielding this cancer of an expressway ?
