We have totally lost the leverage of being the independent sovereign trading body as a nation, negotiating on the clear terms of trade parameters.
I opine this ,because USA has history of forging relations on his terms of bullyng the nation state to first receive the nation-state on-board for further demeaning and then subordinating in future situations followed by showering symbolistic favourable discussions, creating a perception of ally state for garnering support in Global forums and Int. bodies, as everything in a canvas got revealed in this particular COVID pandemic case.
Reportedly,President Trump has tweeted about the consequences of not lifting the export ban of medical supplies from India and Indians will face the outcomes of this policy as a nation.A friendly state doesn’t use such terms of reference for the allies.It clearly demarcates the future of India’s dependence on USA in the times of cricis in International disorder or of bilateral chaos because then India will be forced to act in pressure of heavy weight friends gaining only the status of a friendly state.. ! and post-order favourable symbolism.
