New Delhi: In a rapidly changing global landscape, marked by multipolarity and geopolitical flux, Sujan Chinoy’s new book titled ‘World Upside Down: India Recalibrates Its Geopolitics‘ offers a comprehensive exploration of India’s role and strategic recalibrations as it navigates the contemporary international system.

Chinoy is a seasoned diplomat and director general of the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA). His extensive diplomatic and security expertise provides a unique lens through which readers can understand India’s approach to navigating a world that often seems “untethered and upside down”.

The book raises important questions about India’s strengths, trajectory, and handling of regional and international challenges.

A distinguished career diplomat from 1981 to 2018, Chinoy held pivotal roles, including serving as ambassador to Japan and contributing significantly to policy planning in the National Security Council Secretariat of India. His rich understanding of China, East Asia, and the Indo-Pacific, coupled with his fluency in multiple languages, has earned him the recognition as a respected China specialist.

Chinoy’s extensive and hands-on experience in trade, investment as well as economic matters during his tenure as the consul general in Shanghai and Sydney have further enriched his perspective.

Talking about the book, Swati Chopra, associate publisher of HarperCollins India, said, “In the shifting sands of geopolitics, recent tumultuous events have made it seem as if the world as we knew it has indeed been turned upside down. In this incisive new book, Chinoy helps us make sense of the shifts in the global order and how India can, and indeed have, secured its strategic interests. A must-read for all those who would like to know more about India’s place in the current geopolitical order and the role it can play in the time to come.”

World Upside Down’ is poised to become an essential resource for scholars, practitioners, and anyone interested in gaining a nuanced understanding of India’s dynamic engagement with the evolving global order. The book’s insights shed light on India’s strategic thinking and diplomatic prowess in a world undergoing profound transformation.
