Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, not known for using intemperate language, Friday used strong words to warn the state’s notorious land mafia, saying he will “bury” them and “no one will ever know” about their whereabouts.

Sun lo re, Madhya Pradesh chhod dena nahin to jameen mein gaad dunga dus feet, kahin pata nahi chalega (listen land mafia, leave Madhya Pradesh or I will bury you 10 feet in the ground, and no one will every know),” the chief minister said while addressing an event at Babai in Hoshangabad district.

Aaj kal apan khatarnak mood mein hai, gadbad karnewalon ko chhodenge fodenge nahi… form mai hai mama (these days I am in a dangerous mood, and won’t spare those indulging in irregularities. Mama is in form,” Chouhan added.

The CM is widely known as ‘mama’ (maternal uncle), a ‘title’ he bestowed on himself for his pro-women and pro-children schemes.

Chouhan’s warning echoes a controversial comment made by his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath who, while talking about encounter killings in 2017, had said criminals in his state “will either be sent to jails or killed in police encounters”.

‘Drive against mafia part of good governance’

Over the last few months, the BJP government had started a campaign against unauthorised and illegal constructions across the state, especially targeting properties of criminals. The previous Congress government had started the practice of pulling down such constructions under its anti-mafia drive.

On Friday, Chouhan called his government’s drive an example of “sushasan (good governance)”.

“On one hand, there is a drive against mafia.. Some people using muscle power or clout engage in encroachment or illegal occupation of houses,” he said. “This government believes in good governance and will not spare dadas, goondas, badmash and khan.”

In the past, Chouhan used such strong language only against rapists, especially those accused of raping children, when his government pushed for the death penalty for such crimes. He has called such criminals demons, arguing they have no right to live in society and should be hanged for their crimes.
