Madhya Pradesh CM’s ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ will be flagged off by BJP chief Amit Shah from Ujjain’s famous Mahakal temple on 14 July.

New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will launch a high-voltage re-election campaign Saturday that includes a 55-day statewide tour, temple visits, 700 rallies across 230 assembly constituencies, among others.

Called ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra, the tour will be flagged off by BJP chief Amit Shah from Ujjain’s famous Mahakal temple, preparations for which are on in full swing, ThePrint has learnt.

“Huge preparations are going on for the CM’s yatra for the past 10 days,” said a party leader.

Besides Mahakal, Chouhan will be visiting Chamunda Mata and Maa Sharda temples in Ujjain and Maihar respectively.

“These are famous temples and the CM needs to visit them during campaigning in the area. Blessings always work and it is required more this time though,” a senior state BJP leader told ThePrint.

Party sources also said that Chouhan is likely to announce the campaign slogan — ‘Naya Madhya Pradesh nayi raftar, Shivraj phir ab ki baar’ (New Madhya Pradesh gets a new momentum, once again Shivraj government).

The yatra

During the 55-day tour, Chouhan is scheduled to address 700 rallies across the 230 assembly constituencies in the state.

“The CM will be travelling in a bus reconstructed as a chariot from where he would address the people, inform them about the government’s schemes and listen to their grievances,” said a party source.

The first phase of the yatra will end with a visit to Chamunda Mata temple.

The second phase will kick off on 18 July once the CM offers prayers at ‘Maa Sharda’ temple. The next day, he will meet beneficiaries of ‘Mukhyamantri Teerth-Darshan Yojna’, under which one-time assistance is extended to citizens above 60 years.

Previous tours

In his previous Jan Ashirwad Yatra, Chouhan had laid many foundation stones and announced sops. He even extended his yatra beyond the scheduled date 25 September 2013 as the Election Commission delayed announcement of poll dates.

Chouhan had laid foundation stone of a hospital in Vidisha. Prior to that he had announced sops like an increase in dearness allowance for government employees, setting up a sugarcane research centre, among others.

This year, Chouhan is slated to lay foundation stones and participate in ‘bhumi jujan’ of two hospitals — one in Sarni and other in Birsinghpur. On 19 July, the CM will also lay the foundation stone of a college in Birsinghpur.

The yatra will culminate in Bhopal on 25 September.
