New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is prepared to contest the Lok Sabha elections if the Congress party wants her to.

“Why not? Sanghatan ka bohat kaam hai (there is a lot of work to be done for the party) but if the party asks I will do what they decide,” she said, responding to queries from reporters in Amethi over whether she would contest the elections.

“If my party wants me to contest polls, I will definitely contest. My wish is to work for the party.”

Priyanka, however, said it has not been decided if she will campaign across the country for the Lok Sabha elections.

Priyanka, the Congress general secretary in-charge of eastern UP, was Wednesday touring the constituencies in Amethi, represented in Parliament by her brother, Congress president Rahul Gandhi. On Thursday she will visit Rae Bareli, the constituency of her mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Priyanka met booth-level workers in Amethi and will meet them tomorrow in Rae Bareli too.

Sonia to contest at Rae Bareli, Rahul at Amethi

Earlier, putting an end to speculation that she would quit active politics, the central election committee of the Congress had nominated Sonia Gandhi as its candidate from Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi will contest from Amethi, the seat from which he is a three-time MP.

  1. More valuable would be to strengthen the Congress President’s hands, offer wise counsel. Relations with existing and potential allies requires a lot of sagacity. Must say, NYAY is the best acronym one has heard in a very long time.
