Mumbai: Congress workers Tuesday protested outside the office of a beverage company in Mumbai taking offence to a recent advertisement of the company that allegedly mocks Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi.

Functionaries and party workers from the Mumbai Congress and Mumbai Youth Congress allegedly created a ruckus at the office of Storia Foods & Beverages and raised slogans against the company.

The Mumbai Congress in a statement accepted to have “vandalised” the premises of the company.

The Mumbai Police stationed itself at the spot to monitor the situation.

The Congress unit’s press statement said, “Storia Foods company has made an advertisement in which they have shown defamatory images of Congress leader and former president Rahul Gandhi and incumbent Congress President Sonia Gandhi. To condemn this, on the directions of Mumbai Congress president Bhai Jagtap, general secretary Nitin Sawant and Mumbai Youth Congress leaders vandalised the office of Storia Foods at Mumbai in Andheri East.”

After the incident, Jagtap tweeted, “Congratulations and appreciation to Mumbai Congress General Secretary Nitin Sawant and Youth Congress workers for responding to the defamation of Revered Soniaji Gandhi and Revered Rahul ji Gandhi by STORIA Company through advertisements. It should be noted that such dirty trades will not be tolerated.”

In the statement, Jagtap was quoted as saying, “This advertisement should be immediately banned and Storia Foods should publicly apologise. Otherwise, the Mumbai Congress will stage an even bigger agitation. We will ensure that the Storia Foods office is shut.”

The protests come at a time when the state is under a lockdown to contain the spread of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Mumbai has so far recorded 6,31,527 Covid positive cases and is currently dealing with an active caseload of 70,373 cases as of 26 April.

  1. Congress party has been reduced to party of hookers, swindlers, goldiggers freeloaders,.
for the last three decades of congress rule ,we as citizens unconsciously raised their bars to sky high and they have looted this country and helped indirectly wealthy people to byepass law and to loot taxpayers money

  2. The print is aslo turning out to be just like any other newspaper. Look at the headline! Is it a protest? Even congress note says vandalism. Shame the authors and editors. If these how you are planning to work, then you can’t claim that ThePrint is a unhyphenated journalism . Dont turn into NDTV 2.0.

  3. The crusaders for freedom of speech and democracy are proudly vandalizing Company premised just for an advert

  4. The Stories Food has no right to use leaders of whatever party to promote their product. The hurt Congress Party should file a case of defamation and inciting sentiments of people against the company asking for a hefty compensation as a deterrent. This is like tarnishing images for their own profit. Cheap Taste. Cheap attitude. How would their product be good?

  5. Great ad. Why should Congress assume that the ad depicts Sonia and Rahul unless they believe that Rahul is truly stupid. Question is what does think of himself – if he believes he is stupid he should condemn the ad, else he should enjoy it objectively like the rest of us

  6. Sonia Gandhi always preach that under BJP government there is no freedom of expression. And her both children parrot the same. Now their leaders in Mumbai shown by goondagardi , what sort of freedom of expression she is advocating

  7. Chor ka daadi me tinka!
Why should the Congress ne worried when the ad didn’t even remotely mention anything about Congress, for that matter politics itself?:-):-)

  8. Please STOP! supporting liberandu TRASH News who stand with everyone against this nation & it’s splendid civilization!!

Instead, WATCH Ajeet Bharti, Hindu Channel “Do Politics” on American Liberandu Utube!!

  9. so where are the advocates of freedom of speech ? which no question is now being raised on Mumbai GOvt and Congress party bosses asking for strict action against these goons proudly showcasing actions of vandalism

  10. Where are all the warriors of FoE now? The media? Are their mouths filled with stash of black money of the gandhis? And the ad didn’t even mention congress. So the Congress itself realised that the dumb character was rahul? Let the Ad run on hourly basis on every channel. Will the INC get everything shut?
