New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the four phases of nationwide lockdown have “failed” and not given the results that Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected.

Addressing a press conference, he asked the central government to clarify its strategy as far as opening up of India is concerned and how it intends to support migrants and states.

“What is the central government’s plan to go forward as the disease is growing exponentially in the country,” he said.

“The four stages of lockdown have not given the result that the Prime Minister expected,” he said, adding that it is pretty clear that the aim and purpose of lockdowns have failed in India.

He said India is the only country in the world which is relaxing the lockdown when the virus is “exponentially rising”.

  1. Rahul Ji has made an excellent observation. He should compare with other countries and see how our death rate per million citizens. compare.
He only exposes his ignorance and anger when he says India has “Failed”

    • Mr Krishnan: Do you have any idea of how many tests were conducted in India / thousand ? After all, if you do not test, you do not know the incidence of the virus do you Mr Krishnan? Do you have any idea of how many migrants face slow death by hunger and disease thanks to the Modi government’s authoritarian approach to tackling this pandemic ? Indeed, if there ever was a situation where the central government needed to co-operate and co-ordinate with ALL states in the spirit of federalism, well this pandemic provided it with one. But that was wantonly squandered by the all-knowing Gujarathis your ilk worships.

Rahul Gandhi may be an opportunistic opposition politician doing his best to look and stay relevant in a country intoxicated with Modi’s idea of Hindutva. But there is more than a grain of truth to what he says. The COVID situation presented the Modi government an opportunity to invite and enlist the support of opposition political parties and state governments to tackle the problem as a united Indian political leadership for the benefit of the citizens of India. But such ideas of a united India are anathema to people who regard some Indian citizens as termites. Or to the Gujaratis who see the crisis as an opportunity to consolidate their political powers, topple state governments, push through reforms that are inimical to the working class and so on.

And you have the mess that you see. Or the mess that people like you with your tunnel vision exacerbated by the saffron tinted glasses you wear refuse to see.

  2. I won’t be surprised if I hear Pappu saying that he is the super PM of India as his daily activities starts and ends with saying only. His mom has not taught him doing the things. He thinks say is doing.
