New Delhi: Most exit polls have given a clear advantage to the Aam Admi Party in Punjab. Polls predict that AAP will get above the halfway mark of 59 in the 117-seat assembly. This will then be the party’s second state after Delhi which it has ruled since 2015.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is poised to retain Uttar Pradesh, though with a lesser margin than 2017’s massive 312 seats in the 403-strong assembly. A second-term for the BJP will be historic.
Four polls have given the BJP around 230 seats in Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party will be restricted below 150.
Polls predict a close fight in Uttarakhand and Goa with the BJP marginally ahead of its nearest rival Congress.
The BJP is set to emerge the single-largest party in Manipur – with nearly half of the 60 seats. The Congress will win less than 15 seats, polls say.
The counting of votes will take place on 10 March.

The assembly elections in the five states were held in February and March, 2022.
BJP national president JP Nadda chaired a meeting Monday with the party’s national secretaries to take stock of the situation in the five states. Except Punjab, the BJP are incumbents in the other four.
The Uttar Pradesh elections were held in seven phases from 10 February to 7 March, to elect 403 members.
The outgoing BJP government faces the biggest challenge of joblessness in these elections..
All eyes are, however, on Punjab which went to polls on 20 February to choose 117 members.
Infighting within the ruling Congress has given the Aam Admi Party a clear edge this time. AAP chief minister candidate Bhagwant Mann has become a popular face.
Uttarakhand went to polls on 14 February to elect 70 members. The outgoing BJP government has faced challenges within, thrice changing chief ministers.
Goa was calmer for the ruling BJP in the last five years, where the party is defending a 40-seat Assembly. The state went to polls in a single phase on 14 February. The Trinamool Congress promises to make the BJP-Congress fight interesting.
The 60-member Manipur assembly went to polls between 28 February and 5 March.
A coalition of the BJP, National People’s Party, Naga People’s Front and Lok Janshakti Party have been in power for the last five years. The BJP is likely to come back to power in Manipur.
