New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday attacked the Congress and other Opposition parties, accusing them of not allowing the Parliament to function, and asked BJP MPs to “expose” them.
Addressing the parliamentary party meeting of the BJP, Modi said the Congress has been deliberately trying to disrupt and stall the Parliament proceedings.
“Congress is not interested in a debate or a discussion and is also not letting the Parliament function too. There is a need to expose the Congress and the opposition in front of the people. BJP MPs should ensure that people get to know the truth and how the temple of democracy is not being allowed to function,” a BJP leader quoted Modi as saying.
According to sources, Modi also pointed that the Congress boycotted last week’s all-party meeting to review the Covid situation in the country, and said the party also prevented others from attending it.
“PM Modi mentioned in particular how the Congress boycotted the all-party meeting that was called to take stock of the Covid-19 situation in the country. He also said that not only did they not attend the crucial review but also prevented others from attending it,” another senior BJP leader told ThePrint.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP chief J.P. Nadda, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi and other BJP leaders attended the parliamentary party meeting.
Proceedings in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha have been disrupted multiple times since the monsoon session began last week due to protests by the Opposition on a number of issues including farm laws, Pegasus hacking row, and rising fuel prices.
Focus on I-Day programmes, govt schemes
At the meeting, Modi also asked BJP MPs to visit their constituencies and highlight various schemes of the government.
“After August 16, all of you (BJP MPs) should go to your respective areas and give information about the schemes of the government. Along with this, spread awareness among people about what is happening for 75 years and for the next 25 years,” a leader quoted Modi as saying.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal said PM Modi has asked BJP MPs to mark 75 years of Independence by organising programmes in every village of their constituencies.
According to a party leader, Modi said the 75th Independence Day celebrations should not merely be a government programme. “It should be a people’s movement with people’s participation,” Meghwal told reporters after the meeting.
