Congress-NCP talks done, now will discuss Maharashtra govt formation with Sena: Chavan

Congress and NCP leaders held a marathon meeting on Wednesday to finalise details of their alliance before discussing the government formation with Shiv Sena.

New Delhi: The Congress-NCP combine on Thursday said that the two parties have completed their discussion on all issues related to government formation in Maharashtra and will now hold talks with Shiv Sena in Mumbai to “finalise the architecture of alliance”.

Former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan told reporters after a meeting of Congress and NCP leaders that there is a “complete unanimity” on all issues and when the alliance partners, which will include the Sena, announce their common minimum programme, then the power-sharing formula among the three parties will be disclosed.

The Congress and NCP leaders had held a marathon meeting on Wednesday to thrash out details of their alliance as they work to form a new government in the state in tie up with Sena.

They had expressed confidence of forming a stable government.

  1. The Congress – NCP had publicly acknowledged that the mandate was for them to occupy the opposition space. If fortuitous developments are offering them almost two thirds of the power potential, they should gracefully defer to the Shiv Sena on some issues. That would include the demand for a rotational chief ministership, which Maharashtra has not seen before. Making a success of this coalition government could begin to change equations at the national level. Karnataka should serve as a cautionary tale.
