The meeting also decided to send an an all-party delegation to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and raise the issue along with other matters relating to the farmers’ agitation.

While the BJP boycotted the meeting, the Aam Aadmi Party walked out over their demand for the deployment of the Punjab police personnel to protect farmers protesting at Delhi borders.

The Congress, SAD, Lok Insaaf Party, SAD (Democratic), BSP, CPI and CPI (M) attended the meeting, a government release said.

Amarinder Singh had called the meeting to evolve a consensus on the way forward on the issue of the farm laws and the farmers’ agitation.

  1. The Center seems unlikely to concede to the demand of roll back. The lack of understanding as to what can or cannot be achieved is glaringly obvious besides a total disregard to the security aspect with the Pakistan most likely pushing money and Khalistanis so now the all party meetings and pleadings .
If the democratically elected government is going to be attacked by mobs and violence the response can only be the legitimate use of power to enforce the law.
For all those who do not want the laws the only way is to defeat this Government in the next election and repeal the law in the parliament.

  2. Just WHO will order a probe in Narendra Modi’s rule? That’s a million dollar question. One is reminded of a line from an old Hindi proverb :
    ANDHER NAGRI, CHAUPAT RAJA

  3. Another Deja vu!

I wonder about these rallies and protests; allowed by our hallowed constitution? Lakhs of people on public property, denying its use to other citizens, in itself a violation of basic rights, creating confusion and in many cases vandalizing all in the way. The police can’t, of course, use any force to control them and in all cases suffer unwanted causalities. In the end all that is left is damage and a bad taste.

Hey Indians, are you under the impression that a few “Union leaders” who have a huge disconnect with the crowd (turned into a mob) they profess to “command” can control these lakhs of disoriented people in various state of mind, themselves unsure of what really is happening? If so, I am sure you must be actually joking.

These shenanigans are allowed in the name of “Right to protest” as if that is the ultimate in all rights. Part of the media hail it as acts of democracy. This same media has failed miserably to pursue our elected representatives to have meaningful discussion on National matters in the hallowed Houses – but are vociferous to give a “ball by ball” commentary on these “protests”.
And we want to progress, become a world leader. If we allow these to continue, we will surely remain a laggard democracy and China and the rest of the world will race far ahead, as they probably are already.

    Whose Nation is it anyway?”

  4. Deja vu! All protests have this ending!!!!

When a Government takes a popular policy decision, the media and self-styled experts, who have the welfare of the Nation in mind [all others do not have the same feeling?]) reports it as a case of populism for votes to stay in power! When a policy decision attracts protests from a section of the Nation, the policy is bull dozing. When a Government follows its manifesto, it is majoritarianism and not a consensus decision.

What exactly is democracy in India? How do we move forward with hundreds of political parties in fray in any election? Obviously, any party who can garner 30 odd percent of valid votes gets a majority to rule. If that is what we have chosen, so be it; let the Government function. If we are forever protesting, rest assured we will make no progress.
If we the people (represented through the media as well) do not change our attitude, it will be status quo and India will remain a laggard democracy.
The media is doing its part to further the Nation’s cause either. It is either power hungry or avaricious.
Tail piece: To protest is a right. But by exercising that right the cause does not become equally right.

  5. Chor machaye shor. We all say on camera who sponsored Delhi attack. Amrendar Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Kejriwaal, Sitaram Yechuri, Yogendra Yadav are main culprits. They should be arrested and prosecuted. These politicians have made our life hell.
