In today’s featured cartoon, Kirtish Bhatt draws on Bihar government’s decision to amend the jail manual, 2012 to remove ‘murder of public servant on duty’ clause from a list of cases for which remission can’t be considered. The move facilitated the release of former MP Anand Mohan Singh, who was serving a life sentence for the killing of IAS G. Krishnaiah. In the illustration, one convict tells another that he has “no faith in the law”, to which the latter responds, “I have faith in the (jail) manual. It will change one day and I’ll be out.”

Nala Ponnappa comments on the high-voltage campaign underway in Karnataka, where polling is to be held on 10 May, followed by counting of votes on 13 May. With the BJP banking on PM Modi’s popularity to retain power in the state, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said at a public meeting that the Prime Minister was ‘like a poisonous snake‘. He later clarified that his remarks were not a personal attack, but aimed at the BJP’s ideology.

Alluding to the celebration around 100 episodes of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Satish Acharya suggests that PM Modi steered clear of multiple controversial issues in his monthly radio address.

Alok Nirantar gives his take on the Delhi Police’s alleged refusal to file an FIR against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by at least seven women wrestlers.

Sorit Gupto draws attention to archival evidence that has firmed up the narrative that two male scientists, who claimed to be the first to discover the structure of DNA, may have sidelined fellow scientist Rosalind Franklin, who is credited with generating ‘Photo 51’ — an image containing key information on the physical dimensions of DNA.
