New Delhi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday registered a suo moto case in the name of Bruno, a dog that was killed in cruel circumstances by three men on Adimalathura beach on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram.

The court directed one of the respondents to file a report on actions taken by the Kerala government in response to the complaint made by Bruno’s owner, Christuraj, following Bruno’s death.

The court also directed an advisory body constituted under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 to put in place an “awareness campaign” to educate citizens on animal rights.

Christuraj had released a video of three men beating Bruno to death and throwing Bruno’s body into the sea. The video later went viral on social media.
