Banda (UP), Aug 2 (PTI) A young couple died after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance on the premises of the Singhwahini temple here, and police are investigating the circumstances that compelled them to take the drastic step, officials said on Sunday.
The incident took place late Saturday night at the Singhwahini temple in Kamasin town.
The deceased, Shatrughan (20), a resident of Lakhanpur village, and Rajmani (19), from the Pahari area, belonged to the same community, police said.
Baberu Circle Officer Krishnakant Tripathi said Kamasin police received information around midnight that a man and a woman had consumed a poisonous substance and were lying unconscious on the temple premises.
They were rushed to the Community Health Centre in Kamasin, where doctors declared them brought dead, police said.
Kamasin Station House Officer Santosh Kumar Ojha said the preliminary investigation suggests the two were in a relationship, and authorities are investigating the circumstances under which they consumed the poison.
Police have not received a complaint so far.
