Jaipur, Oct 1 (PTI) The marches for women’s safety, which began in Delhi due to a series of sexual assault cases recently, have now reached Jaipur. On Wednesday, hundreds of girls took part in a late-night march here and asserted their right to move freely in public spaces after dark, organisers said on Thursday.
The walk began from Jawahar Circle on JLN Marg, with participants from different parts of the city flocking to the area, carrying placards and raising slogans on women’s safety, harassment and sexual violence.
Participants questioned why women’s freedom should be curtailed after nightfall and said streets and public spaces should be equally safe for women during the day and night.
They also objected to women being questioned about their clothes, behaviour or decision to step out at night following incidents of violence against them.
Police said they were present during the march.
Organiser Mukul Mishra said the event aimed to openly discuss women’s safety, their rights in public spaces, harassment and their freedom to move around the city at night without fear. PTI SDA SMV ASD
