Srinagar, Jul 21 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said his government will ensure no more people die in the flood-ravaged Poonch and Rajouri districts of the Union Territory.

“There has been devastation in Poonch-Rajouri. Some lives have been lost and our efforts will be to save lives first. I have given clear instructions to the officials to shift the people living in vulnerable areas to safer places,” Abdullah said.

The chief minister expressed grief and anguish over the loss of seven lives in a landslide at Domail Dhok in the Nandichool area of Loran, Poonch.

As an immediate measure of support, the chief minister announced an ex gratia relief of Rs 6 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased.

The assistance will comprise Rs 4 lakh from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and Rs 2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

The chief minister has deputed ministers Javed Ahmed Rana and Satish Sharma to visit Rajouri and Poonch to take stock of the damage and relief work. PTI MIJ VN VN
