Meerut, Sep 21 (PTI) Organisational mobilisation, farmer outreach and engagement with social groups are emerging as three strands of political activity in western Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 assembly elections in the state.
The BJP is focusing on strengthening its organisation at the grassroots, while the Congress is preparing a farmer rights march and the Samajwadi Party and RLD are stepping up contact with social groups.
Western Uttar Pradesh, which has a BJP organisational structure covering 14 districts and 71 assembly constituencies, is politically significant for its sizeable Jat, Gurjar and farmer communities.
The region’s political activity has traditionally featured strong engagement around farmer and rural issues, making organisational mobilisation and outreach to these social groups a key feature of the early preparations for the 2027 polls.
As part of the outreach, BJP president Nitin Nabin is visiting the region starting Monday and will focus on activating the party organisation down to the booth level, directly interacting with office-bearers and workers and taking feedback on political conditions in the region.
According to the BJP, Nabin will interact with Shakti Kendra convenors of western Uttar Pradesh in Meerut on September 21. He will also meet MPs, MLAs, former public representatives and senior organisational functionaries. On September 22, he will attend organisational meetings in Saharanpur and visit the Maa Shakumbhari Devi temple.
BJP western Uttar Pradesh regional president Nawab Singh Nagar said Nabin would interact with around 5,000 Shakti Kendra convenors from the region.
“During the interaction, information will be taken about the organisational position at the booth, Shakti Kendra, mandal, district and regional levels, the activity of workers and preparations for upcoming programmes,” Nagar said.
The BJP’s western Uttar Pradesh campaign comes alongside rival parties’ own efforts to expand their organisational and public-contact activities.
The Congress has announced a Kisan Adhikar Yatra from Muzaffarnagar from October 2 to October 7, ending in Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Congress leader Chaudhary Yashpal Singh, associated with the Jat community in western Uttar Pradesh and a former state Congress secretary and student leader, told PTI that the yatra would raise the problems and rights of farmers, farm labourers, women farmers, rural youth, livestock rearers and other sections associated with agriculture.
“The yatra will pass through six districts. Its objective is to increase public contact in rural areas and strengthen the organisation,” Singh said.
According to Congress state spokesperson Abhimanyu Tyagi, the yatra is being organised by the All India Kisan Congress and the Uttar Pradesh Kisan Congress’ western zone. The party said it would seek to take farmers’ demands and problems to villages across the region.
The Samajwadi Party has also been active among social groups in western Uttar Pradesh. SP president Akhilesh Yadav recently met Gurjar leaders Indrasen Chaudhary and Rudrasen at their residence when he visited Saharanpur. Union minister and RLD president Jayant Chaudhary, a former ally of SP turned NDA partner, also visited Saharanpur the following day.
The three parties’ declared programmes have different focuses. The BJP’s current campaign is centred on organisational preparations, the Congress has projected its Kisan Adhikar Yatra as a farmer-focused public-contact campaign, while recent SP activity has prominently involved contact with social-group leaders.
The Congress’ proposed farmer yatra and the BJP’s organisational campaign are emerging as different approaches to expanding contact in western Uttar Pradesh, while the activities of the SP and RLD are focused on social groups and regional political contacts.
