New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) The national capital witnessed a warm day with the maximum temperature settling two notches above normal at 26.4 degrees celsius, according to Met officials.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 10.1 degrees celsius, which is one notch below the season’s average.

The overall air quality index (AQI) in the national capital stood at 149 in the “moderate” category on Monday evening, according to the latest estimates of the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).  The humidity level in the city oscillated between 97 per cent and 23 per cent, as per the India Meteorological Department.  In Delhi, the levels of PM 2.5 and PM 10 were 149 and 136 — both in the “moderate” category.

The IMD has forecast partly cloudy sky with strong surface winds of speed 30-40 Kmph for Tuesday.

During the day, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 26 and 11 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD forecast.

The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at isolated places in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered “good”, 51 and 100 “satisfactory”, 101 and 200 “moderate”, 201 and 300 “poor”, 301 and 400 “very poor”, and 401 and 500 “severe”.

For the next two days, the SAFAR said that the AQI is expected to improve to “lower end of moderate” or “satisfactory” due to relatively high temperature and wind speed causing strong ventilation.

From March 24, the IMD said, onwards low wind speeds are likely to degrade air quality gradually to “poor”. PTI VA GJS RHL
