New Delhi, Oct 23 (PTI) The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Friday said it will not allow Jamia Millia Islamia University to become a “hub of anti-India” activities after graffiti reading ‘Free Kashmir’ and ‘Free Sharjeel Imam’ was reported on the university campus walls.

In a post on X, VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal shared photographs purportedly showing graffiti including ‘Free Kashmir’, ‘Free Palestine’, ‘Free Sharjeel Imam’ and ‘RSS Go Back’ written on the campus walls.

PTI could not independently verify the authenticity of the photographs.

The development comes amid a students’ protest demanding the restoration of the students’ union polls at the university.

“It is extremely unfortunate and a deep conspiracy to desecrate the temple of education that slogans such as ‘Free Kashmir’, ‘Free Palestine’, ‘Free Sharjeel Imam’, ‘VC Go Back’ and ‘RSS Go Back’ have been written at the prestigious Jamia Millia Islamia University in the country’s capital,” he said.

Bansal demanded that the university administration and police identify those responsible and take swift action against them.

“Are a handful of people trying to turn the central university into a hub for anti-India activities?” he added.

Bansal also accused the Congress leadership of politically defending people who call the Constitution “fascist” and allegedly raise slogans such as “India will be divided into pieces”.

“Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and the Congress’s top leadership must clarify whether they stand with Sharjeel Imam or with India’s Constitution, democracy and national unity. Providing political protection to anti-national ideas must now come to an end,” he said.

The VHP spokesperson said those who insult the Constitution and spread distrust deserve public ostracism and strict punishment rather than political protection. PTI ADI KSI

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
