Ahmedabad, Aug 2 (PTI) A live donor heart was transported from Ankleshwar to Ahmedabad aboard the Vande Bharat Express on Sunday, marking the second such operation in just three days, officials said.
In the previous transfer, a live donor heart was rushed from Surat to Ahmedabad aboard the Vande Bharat Express.
In a first, the Vande Bharat Express made a special operational halt at Ankleshwar railway station to facilitate the loading of the donor heart. The organ was retrieved from Smt. Jayaben Modi Multi-Speciality Hospital and transported to the station through a green corridor created by local police.
“The donor heart was subsequently transported aboard the Vande Bharat Express to U.N. Mehta Hospital Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre, Ahmedabad,” according to a release issued by the Gujarat government.
Upon arrival in Ahmedabad, another green corridor was created, officials said, adding that the organ reached the institute well within the prescribed ischemic time limit, enabling doctors to successfully perform the hospital’s 78th heart transplant.
“This successful operation further reinforced the importance of coordination and cooperation among the U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre, Railways, other healthcare institutions, and public agencies, including the local police,” the release said.
Earlier on Friday, a live donor heart was rushed 250 km from Surat to Ahmedabad via a high-speed “green corridor” created aboard the Vande Bharat Express and across city streets to save the life of a critically ill cardiac patient. PTI KVM NSK
