Dehradun Oct 7 (PTI) The Uttarakhand Chief Election Officer on Wednesday announced a three-day special camp in the state from October 8 to October 10 at every polling station to add new voters and those who were “left out” of the voter list due to various reasons during the SIR process despite being eligible for enrollment.
Officials said that during the camp, the BLOs will compare the current electoral roll with the pre-SIR electoral roll and identify such electors whose names were there in the pre-SIR roll but who are not included in the current electoral roll and prepare a list of such electors.
In Uttarakhand, before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls started, there were a total of 84,29,459 electors. After the SIR process, the total number of electors stands at 71,58,949.
Between January 2025 and August 2026, 4,34,620 voters were added and 17,05,130 voter names were deleted.
The move by the election authorities comes in the backdrop of criticism from opposition parties and other quarters over the deletion of a large number of names during the SIR, with questions being raised about the exercise.
B. V. R. C. Purushottam, the chief electoral officer of Uttarakhand, told reporters on Wednesday that the BLOs will ensure filling up of Form 6 for enrolment of any “left out/first time/ young electors” during their house-to-house visits.
BLOs will also share this list with booth-level agents (BLAs) of the recognised political parties.
After the three-day special camp, a house-to-house visit will also be conducted by the BLO along with a Booth Awareness Group (BAG) member for the verification process.
The BLOs will conduct the house-to-house verification visits from October 12 till October 20.
During these visits, the team will identify electors to ascertain their present status and facilitate enrolment through Form 6, “wherever the person is found to be eligible”.
He added that BLOs will share the list with the ERO along with the filled-in application forms in Form 6 and their field verification report. PTI SPY RT
