Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), May 25 (PTI) A leopard was caged in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri early Monday after forest officials spent over two weeks tracking its movement in villages hit by repeated sightings and fatal attacks.
Officials of the Dudhwa buffer zone’s north Nighasan range captured the leopard after luring it into a cage baited near Singha Khurd village.
Movements of leopards had been frequently reported from several villages in the range, creating fear among residents and leading to some human fatalities in the area, Manoj Tiwari, sub-divisional officer (SDO), Nighasan, said.
Tiwari said a male leopard had already been captured from the area on May 22. However, reports of leopard movement continued even after that, prompting forest teams to continue intensive monitoring and keep cages in place.
On Monday morning, one such cage near Singha Khurd village successfully trapped another leopard after it entered to reach the bait placed inside.
The animal was later identified as a female leopard aged around three to four years. It was brought to the range headquarters for a medical examination, officials said. PTI COR NAV NB NB NB
