Lucknow, Oct 27 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved the free transfer of 9.524 hectares of land for the expansion of Sainik School in Mainpuri and land allocations in Jhansi and Lalitpur districts in the Bundelkhand region to facilitate an additional grain storage capacity of around 65,000 metric tonnes.

Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said, “The land for the Sainik School would be made available free of cost to facilitate the expansion of its educational infrastructure.”

“The school has been operational since July 22, 2019, and requires additional land for constructing more buildings and expanding its educational facilities,” he said.

Khanna said high-tension electricity lines passing over a portion of the existing premises had also restricted the scope for vertical expansion, making additional land necessary.

The Cabinet approved placing 9.524 hectares of land at the disposal of the state’s Secondary Education Department for the school, the minister said.

In a separate decision, the Cabinet approved land allocations in Jhansi and Lalitpur to facilitate the development of additional storage facilities with a combined capacity of around 65,000 metric tonnes.

“The proposed facility in Jhansi would provide an additional storage capacity of 30,000 metric tonnes, while the facility in Lalitpur would add another 35,000 metric tonnes,” Khanna said.

In Jhansi district, the proposal concerns 4.254 hectares of land in Parwai village, according to the details shared during the briefing.

In Lalitpur district, the allocation involves four land parcels in Ghatwara village, with a combined area of 5.479 hectares, the minister said.

The additional capacity would be used for grain storage, with the commodities stored depending on requirements, he added.

Khanna said the land parcels identified for the storage facilities were vacant and that the Cabinet had approved the proposals to increase storage infrastructure in the two districts. PTI KIS APL

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
