Lucknow, Oct 27 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved Rs 543.40 crore for constructing 845 residential units for Class I and Class II officers of the Allahabad High Court at Jhalwa in Prayagraj.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said the residential complex would be developed on 10.37 acres of land at Jhalwa to address the shortage of government accommodation for High Court officers.

“The project comprises 533 Type III residential units and 312 Type IV units,” he said, adding that the Cabinet had approved the administrative and financial sanction for the construction work and the release of funds.

Khanna said the proposal had been examined by the expenditure finance committee, which approved a project cost of over Rs 543.04 crore.

“The construction will be undertaken in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode,” he said.

According to the minister, 607 posts were sanctioned for Class I and Class II officers of the High Court, while the existing availability of residential accommodation was limited to 128 flats.

The proposed construction is intended to improve the availability of government housing for officers serving at the High Court in Prayagraj.

Khanna said the expenditure would be borne by the state government. PTI KIS APL

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
