Jaipur, Oct 1 (PTI) A 22-year-old undertrial prisoner allegedly committed suicide inside a jail in Jaipur, police said on Thursday.

Manish Raigar, a resident of Chaksu, had been lodged in jail since May in connection with a case under the POCSO Act, they said.

Lalkothi SHO Shyam Sundar said Manish was found hanging near a store inside the jail premises on Wednesday.

Other inmates and jail personnel spotted him and brought him down. He was examined by doctors, who declared him dead, the SHO said.

Prima facie, he used a shoelace and other material available inside the jail to make the noose, police said.

The body was handed over to his family after a post-mortem examination.PTI SDA SMV SMV NB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
