Agartala, Jul 26 (PTI) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making a special mention of ‘Chongpreng’, an indigenous musical instrument, in his radio programme ‘Mann ki Baat’.
Taking to social media, the chief minister said Modi mentioned Tripura resident Suraj Kumar Debbarma’s efforts to revive and promote the traditional musical instrument.
“Chongpreng, a three-stringed bamboo musical instrument, is a unique symbol of India’s rich cultural heritage and holds a special place in the traditions of Tripura’s indigenous communities. Its melodious sound closely resembles that of the sarod,” Saha said in a social media post.
“Although its popularity among the younger generation had gradually declined over time, Debbarma’s tireless dedication has helped revive interest in the instrument, restoring its recognition and respect among today’s youth,” the CM said.
“Heartfelt gratitude and sincere thanks to the prime minister for showcasing this proud cultural heritage of Tripura on a national platform,” he added.
In a recent programme, the chief minister felicitated Debbarma for his efforts to preserve and promote the indigenous musical instrument.
