New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) A traffic policeman administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and rushed an advocate to the hospital after he collapsed from a suspected cardiac emergency while riding a motorcycle at the busy ITO intersection on Monday here, an officer said.
The incident occurred at 11:55 am when Traffic Inspector Gopal of Kamla Market circle was regulating traffic at A-Point at the ITO in Central Delhi. The officer noticed the motorcyclist, identified as Advocate Namneet, suddenly lost control of his vehicle and collapsed on the road while travelling from the IP Estate side towards ITO, police said.
According to the officer, the inspector immediately reached the scene, removed the victim’s helmet and administered CPR, a life-saving emergency procedure performed when someone’s breathing or heartbeat stops, combining chest compressions and rescue breaths to keep blood and oxygen moving through the body.
“Preliminary assessment suggested the prevailing extreme heat with high humidity might have aggravated the medical emergency, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed,” the officer said.
Police said traffic congestion in the area could have delayed medical assistance; therefore, the traffic inspector transported the advocate to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital in an official police vehicle instead of waiting for an ambulance.
Police said the victim was admitted to the hospital within minutes of the incident and and doctors are carrying out further medical examination to ascertain the exact cause of the medical emergency.
