Balasore, Oct 3 (PTI) An elderly tourist from Uttar Pradesh died while taking bath in the Subarnarekha river in Odisha’s Balasore district on Saturday, police said.

In another incident, two minors hailing from Balasore went missing while having a bath in the same river near Sekhbadi area, they said.

The deceased was identified as Ashok Pathak (62), a resident of Ayodhya in UP.

The incident took place when a group of tourists was on their way to Puri, and halted en route at Rajghat near the river for a bath, a police officer said.

Pathak slipped into the water and was swept away by strong currents, an officer said.

Fire services and ODRAF personnel were pressed into service, and after a two-hour search operation, his body was recovered, he said.

Meanwhile, two boys, aged 15 and 11 years, went missing while taking a bath in the Subarnarekha river near Sekhbadi, the officer said.

However, another boy who was with them, managed to swim to safety.

A search operation has been launched to trace the minors, he added. PTI CORR AAM RBT

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
