Wayanad (Keralam), Oct 6 (PTI) Keralam Tourism Minister P C Vishnunadh on Tuesday said that steps have been taken by the government to get industrial status for the tourism sector in the state.

The minister was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Brand Wayanad’ project, which is being implemented by the Tourism Department as part of the state government’s 100-day action plan. The event was held at Vythiri here.

Vishnunadh also inaugurated the Life Experience Trails projects of the Responsible Tourism Mission Society.

The objective of the ‘Brand Wayanad’ project is to present the hill district to the world by combining its natural beauty, agriculture, adventure activities, farm and heritage tourism areas, places of historical importance, food diversity, arts and crafts, the minister said in a statement.

He said that the ‘Brand Wayanad’ project includes the tourism development of Malappuram and Kozhikode districts, and steps will be taken to make the tourism activities in the Malabar region more attractive.

As part of developing the tourism circuit, by connecting Wayanad with Kodagu and Mysuru districts in neighbouring Karnataka, Keralam’s art festival and still life representing its culture will be presented during the Dussehra celebrations, the minister said.

He further said that the state’s festival, Onam, will be turned into a big event modelled after the Hornbill Festival in the Northeast and the Mysore Dussehra.

As part of the Brand Wayanad project, various programs will also be organised in Delhi by December, Vishnunadh said.

Under the Life Experience Trails project, the Thirunelli Trail and the Coffee Trail, including Chekadi, have been started in the district and they have potential for experiential tourism, he said.

The minister also said that Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) institutions will be modernised and steps will be taken to make them economically viable. PTI HMP ADB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
