Mathura (UP), Sep 7 (PTI) Unidentified thieves allegedly broke into the residence of a senior judicial officer at the heavily secured Judges’ Compound here during the Krishna Janmashtami holidays and fled with cash, gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs, and his licensed pistol, police said on Monday.
The officer, an additional chief judicial magistrate, had gone to his native district in Haryana with his family when the theft took place, according to a complaint lodged by his wife at the Sadar police station.
Praveen Kumar Tiwari, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Refinery), said on Sunday that the complainant reported that unidentified thieves broke the lock of their house and stole Rs 25,000 in cash and gold and silver ornaments worth several lakhs, besides a licensed pistol and live cartridges.
The theft came to light on Sunday when a delivery agent from a courier company arrived at the residence. On finding the lock broken, he informed the family over phone.
The family then asked the delivery agent to enter the house and show the premises over a video call. The bedrooms and cupboards were found to have been broken into, while valuables kept among household items were missing, the officer said.
A case has been registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Forensic evidence has been collected from the scene and investigation is underway, he said. PTI COR KIS ARB ARB
