Hyderabad, Aug 12 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed officials to make optimum utilisation of Godavari River water to meet the people’s requirements.

Reddy, who held a meeting with Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and officials on irrigation issues, instructed them to lift water from the Yellampalli, Devadula, and Sitarama projects for maximum utilisation of water in Godavari (in view of rainfall deficit so far this year), an official release said.

He said water is currently not being stored in Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages of the Kaleshwaram project, as per the recommendations of the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) in view of the repairs to be carried out after the lift irrigation project suffered damage about three years ago.

The Irrigation Minister briefed the CM that defects had been identified in both the Medigadda and Sundilla barrages. The CM suggested consulting the NDSA on this matter immediately, the release said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said water is being lifted from the Devadula project using nine pumps (to boost water availability), which is unprecedented. PTI SJR SJR ADB
