Bengaluru, Oct 27 (PTI) Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said he has taken the sting operation issue to the Congress high command’s notice and said he would like to meet the party’s top leader Rahul Gandhi during his New Delhi visit on November 1.
Siddaramaiah clarified that he has not fixed any appointment with Rahul Gandhi, but he would meet him during his visit to Delhi on November 1 to take part in the protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll.
The Congress stalwart also insisted that he wanted a fair investigation into the matter.
“Everything has been taken to their (party high command) notice. What is there in the sting operation? It is a false and fabricated story,” the former chief minister told reporters here.
Siddaramaiah has secured an injunction from the court against publishing or airing a defamatory video, which some people had put on social media.
He has also lodged a police complaint in this regard, following which some people have been arrested, including two members of the JD(S) social media team.
Union Minister and JD(S) second-in-command H D Kumaraswamy alleged that the government was shielding the Congress leaders who are the masterminds of the sting operation and framed innocent JD(S) workers.
While Siddaramaiah named Kripa Alva behind the defamatory post, his son Yathindra Siddaramaiah alleged that some Congress leaders were behind it, including a woman who was aspiring for a ticket to contest the Assembly election from Puttur constituency in Dakshina Kannada district.
Police questioned Kripa Alva and others allegedly involved in making the video.
When reporters asked Siddaramaiah whether he would take the matter to Congress high command’s notice, he said, “They are already aware of it. I have informed Congress national General Secretary K C Venugopal about it.”
To a question whether he was satisfied with the progress made in the investigation, Siddaramaiah said, “The investigation is ongoing. It is not a question of being satisfied or dissatisfied. The police are conducting the investigation. I insist that the investigation should be carried out fairly”.
Regarding his meeting with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi separately during his Delhi visit, the former chief minister said he would meet if he gets an opportunity.
“I don’t have a fixed appointment. I will meet him. I will ask for an appointment after reaching there,” he explained. PTI GMS GMS ADB
