New Delhi, Sep 20 (PTI) Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi on Sunday launched two books by senior doctor and litterateur Sharad Agarwal during the Hindi promotion fortnight (Pakhwada).

One of the books, “Kahavaton Ki Lok Kathayein”, contains more than 350 folk stories linked to commonly used Hindi proverbs. It covers stories, incidents, beliefs and social contexts associated with proverbs.

Agarwal said proverbs reflect the society’s collective wisdom, experiences and philosophies, and preserving the stories behind them helps protect cultural memory.

The second book, “Manbhavan Lokgeet”, is a collection of more than 500 traditional and contemporary folk songs associated with different occasions, including marriages and festivals.

The book includes songs such as “banne-banni”, “sohar”, “bhat” and “jaymal”.

Trivedi, who is also the BJP national spokesperson, praised Agarwal’s work in preserving Hindi and folk literature and said Indian languages and folk traditions need to be passed on to future generations.

Agarwal’s earlier book, “Hindi Kahawat Kosh”, was released by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah during the Fourth All-India Official Language Conference in New Delhi on September 14, 2024.

The book’s expanded edition contains more than 10,000 Hindi proverbs with their meanings, contexts and illustrations. PTI RR ACB RUK RUK RUK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
