Kochi, Jul 27 (PTI) A case was registered on Monday against four students for allegedly assaulting a classmate at Valakom near here after a video of the incident surfaced on social media, officials said.
The case was registered based on the complaint of a 16-year-old student of an aided school in Valakom.
Officials said the complainant and the accused are Class 10 students of the same school.
According to police, on July 16, there was an argument between the complainant and the first accused inside the school.
The complainant was allegedly restrained by the four students, verbally abused and assaulted outside the school compound at around 4.30 pm He was allegedly punched and kicked by the accused.
The assault was also videographed by one of the accused, officials said.
The incident came to light after the video circulated on social media.
Following this, police recorded the victim’s statement and registered a case at the Muvattupuzha police station on Monday.
The case has been registered under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for wrongful restraint, intentional insult and assault.
Police said the statements of the accused students will be recorded soon, following which further action will be taken.
