Lucknow, Oct 4 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh BJP president and Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary on Sunday hit out at the Samajwadi Party, alleging that its 34-year political journey in the state had been marked by controversies relating to law and order and corruption.

At the press conference, Chaudhary symbolically broke a pot described as the “pot of SP’s sins”, saying the party’s political record over the past 34 years was now before the public.

Founded on October 4 in 1992, the SP completed its 34 years on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters here, Chaudhary said the SP might have begun its political journey in the name of Ram Manohar Lohia’s ideals, but its three governments in Uttar Pradesh were remembered more for “controversies and incidents” than governance.

Targeting the Akhilesh Yadav government between 2012 and 2017, Chaudhary alleged that power remained concentrated within the family and accused SP workers of taking the law into their own hands during the period.

Targeting the SP government’s free laptop scheme and unemployment allowance, he claimed that against the purchase of around 15 lakh laptops, only about six lakh were distributed, and cited alleged findings of a CAG audit.

He further claimed that while Rs 20.58 crore was distributed as unemployment allowance, Rs 15.06 crore was spent on publicity.

“Making schemes in the name of youth is one thing and ensuring that their benefits reach them transparently is another,” he said.

Chaudhary said the issues raised during the SP’s 34-year political journey required answers before the people of Uttar Pradesh.

The BJP leader said the BJP government was pursuing governance based on the rule of law, development, the interests of the poor and youth, and transparency. He asserted that people in Uttar Pradesh were prioritising development, good governance and the rule of law. PTI CDN SHS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
