New Delhi: A SpiceJet passenger had to spend most of a Mumbai-Bengaluru flight in the plane’s toilet Tuesday, after the door lock of the lavatory reportedly got jammed from inside.
The flight crew tried their best to open the door, but reportedly failed. The flight staff is said to have slipped him a note a little before landing, which said: “Please close the commode lid and sit on it and secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open, engineer will come. Do not panic.”
According to reports, the passenger got up to use the toilet soon after the plane was airborne from Mumbai. He could come out only after the plane landed in Bengaluru.
A SpiceJet spokesperson told news agency ANI that the passenger “unfortunately got stuck” inside the lavatory for about an hour on 16 January in the flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru. This was due to a malfunction in the door lock, they said.
“Throughout the journey, our crew provided assistance and guidance to the passenger. Upon arrival, an engineer opened the lavatory door, and the passenger received immediate medical support,” they added.
The low-cost airline has reportedly decided to make a full refund of the ticket price, as the passenger could not take his designated seat for most of the flight.
