Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Maharashtra), Sep 8 (PTI) Amid Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange’s hunger strike, Justice (retd) Sandeep Shinde on Tuesday directed officials to simplify the process of issuing Kunbi caste certificates.
Shinde, who heads a committee formed by the Maharashtra government on the Kunbi certificates issue, reviewed the procedure for issuing certificates to persons claiming Kunbi, Maratha-Kunbi and Kunbi-Maratha status at a meeting, an official release said.
The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner G Srikanth and district collectors, sub-divisional officers and chairpersons and members of district caste certificate scrutiny committees from across the Marathwada division.
Shinde directed officials to process eligible applications as per the rules and on the basis of available records.
Srikanth directed officials across all districts in the division to complete the legal procedures and take further action in eligible cases.
Jarange, whose fast entered the 11th day on Tuesday, has been seeking Kunbi certificates for eligible Marathas so that they can get reservation in education and jobs in the OBC quota. The agrarian Kunbi community falls in the Other Backward Classes category. PTI AW KRK
