Gangtok, Sep 21 (PTI) Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Monday said his government is committed to supporting the judiciary by strengthening infrastructure across the state to bring justice closer to the people.
“The Government of Sikkim remains firmly committed to supporting the judiciary by strengthening judicial infrastructure across the state,” he said after jointly inaugurating the Additional Court of the District & Sessions Judge at Namchi with the Sikkim High Court Chief Justice A Muhamed Mustaque.
“By establishing courts in various sub-divisions, we are ensuring that people, particularly those in remote and rural areas, do not have to travel long distances to seek justice,” Tamang said.
The inauguration of the Additional Court of the District & Sessions Judge at Namchi marks another significant step towards bringing justice closer to our people, the chief minister said, adding that an accessible, responsive and efficient justice system strengthens citizens’ confidence that their rights will be protected and that they will receive fair and timely justice.
“For our government, access to justice is an integral part of good governance, and we remain committed to making public institutions more accessible, responsive and people-centric, particularly for those in remote and rural areas,” he said.
Tamang hailed the Sikkim HC Chief Justice for his continued guidance and cooperation in strengthening justice delivery in the state and said that the important institutional reforms undertaken, including reforms in the appointment system in the Courts of Sikkim under Rule 4/4, giving due priority to eligible Sikkimese candidates, are a step in a positive direction.
Tamang said that the creation of the two new districts of Soreng and Pakyong has further strengthened decentralisation and brought administration, essential services and development opportunities closer to our people.
