New Delhi: India’s health, education, green growth and social infrastructure present great opportunities for investors, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Lucknow Friday, while inaugurating the Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit, 2023.

“Today, India is carrying out reforms not out of compulsion, but out of conviction,” Modi said, highlighting several sectors in the state with new initiatives. He mentioned dairy, fisheries, agriculture, food processing sectors and natural farming, among them.

“India is focused on crop diversification and reducing the input cost of our farmers. Hence we are putting a lot of effort in promoting natural farming,” Modi said.

He said India’s millets – “which we call Shree Ann” – would address global nutritional security through the government’s efforts.

At the summit, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “For the convenience of investors here, a single-window portal ‘Nivesh Mitra’ is providing 406 services of 33 departments… We doubled our exports in five years. Today, the state is known for its excellent law and order situation.”

Modi endorsed the chief minister’s view in his speech and added, “We welcome all investors to this summit. Today, Uttar Pradesh is known for good governance, peace, law and order, and stability.”

“Along with infrastructure, UP has changed its ‘Soch and Approach’ for ease of doing business. It is driving the growth of ‘New India’. From electricity to connectivity, there has been improvement in every field. The state is witnessing a holistic development.”

At the event, Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani said that Jio 5G services would cover every town and village in Uttar Pradesh by December 2023.

He said: “This year’s Budget has laid the foundation for India’s emergence as a developed nation. It stands out for the highest-ever resource allocation for building the foundation for the country’s growth in terms of capital expenditure. India is on a very strong growth path.”

The state’s flagship event, Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit (UPSIG), is being held for three days from 10 to 12 February.

Its website describes the UPSIG 2023 as an “initiative aligned to the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, of making our country a USD 5 Trillion economy, towards which the Government of Uttar Pradesh has set an aspiration target of making the State a USD 1 Trillion economy in next 5 years”.
